To be honest I always find Opeth overrated.

I bought Blackwater Park last week to give it another chance. I'm changing little by little my opinion about this record. Blackwater Park has a solid songwriting and a really cool dark atmosphere. The vocals are also interesting.

This gets so... boring if you listen to more than one song at a time. I like the harmonized guitar leads, but this album has a lot of the Opeth signature...

It is at least a little bit overrated. "Bleak" is too repetitive and about four minutes longer than it needed to be, and Dirge for November fails to stay interesting all the way through.



The Funeral Portrait has a lot of really cool parts in it but it doesn't click all that well as a full song. Structurally it's extremely disjointed, like a BTBAM song.



It does, however, have three of the best Opeth songs on it... which all retain that incredible dark atmosphere, so it's still a solid album.

Bad.
