Absolutely tragic. RIP

Tragic is the correct word given the timing and the circumstances they were as a band/friends.
Sometimes things end terribly bad. I hope the rest of them are able to get over it cause something like this can easily f you up in the head.

Leviathan ranks as one of the greatest modern metal albums of the past 20 years, without a shadow of a doubt. Hard 5.

I remember getting this album when I was like 12 randomly at a store because of the cover art and it just completely and utterly blew me away, fan since then, can't think of too many other metal songs better than most of the songs on here like Hearts Alive still to this day gives me chills all up and down my spine. Crack the Skye comes close too but there's just something about this that utterly crushes. RIP BRENT tearing up listening to some of the tracks :[

I had a similar experience. Roughly the same age and for the same reason.
We must be of a comparative age...

I got into Mastodon, and specially this album thanks to NFL Madden 06, which had Blood & Thunder in its tracklist.
I was into metalcore and some metal stuff already back then but that was the track that got me into Sludge/Stoner territory.
I remember reading a review written by a fifty year old or so guy that praised this band to the point of calling them the saviours of metal, since apparently metal was dead in the 00s. He was a fan of all the classics and some 90s stuff (Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica, DIO etc...) and was convinced these guys and Gojira had resurrected metal. I did not agree at all but seeing an old metalhead thinking like that made me dive deeper into Gojira and Mastodon's discogs, and they became highly rated bands in my book not long afterwards, specially Gojira which was my fav band for many years (still is one of my faves).
I got the official Leviathan shirt and I rocked it for many years until it tore pretty bad in the back area while I was working out. It broke my heart cause I loved that shirt damn...

hell yeah Madden 06. "Iron Tusk" on Tony Hawk was another clutch move back the The Day. my entry point was the Crystal Skull / Capillarian Crest single on iTunes, (followed by Blood Mountain the next month). I found a signed copy of that 8" on Discogs last year and it's now framed in my kitchen as one of my cherished items.

my intro was a blood & thunder music video around 2005, that song has a lot of metallica sensibilities but sander's vocals are just better and the creepy circus clown music video just seemed so cool, then i remember driving around san diego at night and listening to remission in full, and the songs ol nessie, trainwreck, and trilobite was perfect, like they "solved" metal and that's what metal should always sound like. kinda still think that honestly, those songs are flawless, heavy, emotional, awesome production
