Masters Apprentice gets really great after those first verses. Closer is one of my least favorites by them, but itโ€™s still a good song of course. My favs are t/t, A Fair Judgement, and Absent Friends.

Same for me, but I'd add Wreath to my fave list as well. That one clicked only recently (as in, relatively, a few years back) compared to the rest, but now I love it. Weird how that happens sometimes.

Funny thing about Wreath for me is I remember it was one of their first songs that really clicked for me when I was getting into the band 10+ years ago. I absolutely loved it, especially the dissonant guitar lead instrumental part after the first verse or two, but now I see it as solid, but not one of the bandโ€™s best songs or anything. Itโ€™s probably their heaviest actually.

Yeah it is. For me it was the BWP t/t, the Deliverance t/t and The Grand Conjuration around the time of its release that did it. Oh and all of MAYH ๐Ÿ˜

Nice picks! I was obsessed with Wreath, Ghost of Perdition, Leper Affinity, BWP, Bleak, Demon of the Fall, and April Ethereal iirc. For some reason the first Opeth song I ever heard though and bought on iTunes Store back in like 2007 was The Funeral Portrait. Pretty mind-blowing to my 12-year-old ears haha

Ah nice, Funeral Portrait is amazing. Remember seeing Morningrise in a record store when I was 16 and being amazed by the song lengths hahaha. The font was pretty hard to read and I was floored when I saw it said 20:00!!

Mike's vocals on Wreath are so good, his growls used to be the best.

It's a rough ride listening to him live now, his mid range is still great but when tries to do those lows his voice just gives in.

Credit where its due, his cleans are amazing live and keep improving.

We're very lucky his cleans are as good as they are. Otherwise we would miss that perfect growl even more I think.
