grunge is such a weird "genre." the four biggest bands could not be more different musically. Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains would all be in a differen subgenre this day and age.

Well it was more of a media/marketing term really, I don't think Cobain and the like really embraced it or enjoyed being labelled as it. But the variety of the four bands is awesome.
