AI is overblown. You can't really give a computer the same reflexivity as a sentient being no matter how adaptive its learning system. We're nowhere near it anyway. There's a million other ways humans give a technology too much power that it threatens the entire globe. Guns and nukes were just the start.
More likely ecological collapse will permanently disrupt the global economic system, kill billions and fracture society even further between those more and less able to cope with the sudden shifts in climate, collapse of biomes, mass migrations. I think reach that point before we even get to the point that say, a "global hack" of world electronic systems is possible, or a robot army, both of which seem much more feasible than AI actually going rogue.
This is how AI fits into this silicon valley fantasy of technological singularity, endless capital investments etc and why Elon Musk never shuts up about it.
