Maybe this would be a good alarm tone because it would piss me off so much and immediately wake me up in the morning

Been revisiting these earlier Opeth albums lately and this one holds up good. Gotta admit I much prefer the debut and Hearse to this one though. Can't put my finger on what it is exactly but it feels like something is missing on this one

Orchid is better but this is only other opeth album that really has that old opeth feel. Their sound changed with MAYH

It definitely still has that old feel agreed. Something about the song structures here feels repetitive to me though and I think that's what is dragging it down some. Almost dropped my rating to a 3.5 but I'm gonna give it a few more listens before I change it

I think this one's a bit messier in terms of song structure and has more parts that drag

Still an all time favorite of mine, with some of the coolest bass lines in the genre.

Definitely a more refined take on the style that Orchid represented.

Night and the Silent Water has one of my fave Opeth outros, so dark.

'Orchid is better but this is only other opeth album that really has that old opeth feel. Their sound changed with MAYH' (2). True. MAYH is possibly a creative peak for the band in some ways, yet it just doesn't resonate with my soul on the same level, or something

and yeah, this is messy af but in a good way, probably. idk anymore this probably isn't a 5 but also 'this album changed my life' (2)... so what to do?

I must say that I also noticed the repetition issue (for the first time ever) the other week. Discovering flaws in albums you never knew had them is the worst (or in this case realising deep down, but somehow not caring).
