lmao had completely forgotten this until right now but I had one of the most unbelievable life-as-a-sitcom coincidental syncs of my life while jamming Howl for the first or second time

It's a great album just really let down by the production unfortunately

So I was chatting to a pal on fb about a mutual friend I'd been seeing over I guess a couple of months the year before. She drops a series of pretty cutting revelations about how irresponsible a friend she (other girl) had been over the first coinciding 2 mins of that track, then she follows this up with a dual bombshell about how much she'd been getting around while we were seeing each other + her total lack of concern for any means of birth control and/or protection exactly as the track kicked into gear
was somewhat shook

Ahhhh now I'm going to have to re-jam as well, has been a long time but from what I remember it was more consistent than this

Yeah maybe it's the buzz of hearing a relatively fresh alb but right now this second I prefer it to this lol. Grievances still top ez

"Grievances still top ez"
Hard agree, just feels like their most focused and professional album with less fluff than this

Cosmology is a fun mess and this is a less fun not-mess, so unfair to compare them for consistency lol

Spot on, I think I like the songwriting on Grievances and Astraea the most as they bridge the gap between their more manic, 'party' material and the emotive stuff, both of which they can do rly well

The fast, heavy tracks here take themselves a bit too seriously and don't do much for me as the band never had riffs on the level of the mathcore heavyweights

Yeah agreed, they've always been much better as a slam-down band like on Estranged and Party Knives than a riff vehicle. Rituals kinda pulls its weight in that dept but this one doesn't have the same claws

More claws less fluff pls
