Only episode I could convince myself that I like more than Whitecaps is Blue Comet. That final shot is legit one of the best closing shots in television history.

I can’t imagine the pain of waiting a week for the finale after Blue Comet.
Bobby telling the train guy that his son doesn’t care about it breaks my fucking heart.
|

Agreed. Bobby's entire character arc might be my favorite of the show aside from Tony himself.

From just the first three-and-a-half listens, it is already very clear that this band influenced a lot of my favorite metal of the past few years.
This is gonna be a fun discog dive.

This is their best imo but Fas isn’t far behind. Both are the best black metal I’ve ever heard

I’m fine with how familiar I am rn, Fas was literally way too much for me to process in one listen lol

Everything just clicked immediately for me, but I'd already been pretty heavy into harsh noise and dissoshit by the time I checked these guys for the first time.

I never get tired of Fas. Never. Everytime it feels like the gates of a very dark place in some remote corner up there in the realm of transcendance open and I get a glimpse of what's inside. The first time I spun it though... That was something quasi-religious. I wrote about it somewhere in the album's thread thread a few years back. I come back to this one quite fewer times but it's still a masterpiece for sure.
Edit: Found my story with Fas. Will repost it here so DsO fans may rejoice. (And so the haters may laugh and/or make a pasta out of it lol"
"Well guys, as you can imagine by my avatar (R.I.P Timo Ketola) this is my favourite album EVER (of any genre or type of music). It's an album I've listened to so many times I simply lost count (It's without any doubt the record I've heard the most in my whole life). I still give it a spin at least once a week. There is so much inside this masterpiece I think I could write an essay on it. Call me crazy but the very first time I listened to this I had a strong religious-esque experience while dwelling inside its cathedral-like atmospheric passages and fast dissonant riffs. For the first time I want to share with you guys what happened because it's something I won't ever forget, as I remember what I went through very nitid and clear, even though it's been many years...
I was in a very small but cozy hotel room in a small town of Spain laying on the bed. I was playing a chess tournament and I had lost a very long and tough game, so I was in a kind of depressed/pissed off mood. This tournament was being held at the same time as the holy week celebrations, which are devotionally lived in Spain (a country with many catholic devotees) and during the night processions were being held on the streets, creating a very eerie and dark atmosphere. I was raised a catholic but by that time I had already lost my faith and was already very critical towards the catholic church as an institution, yet this type of celebrations are always a sight to behold (and I still love to enter cathedrals and other architecturally marvelous religious places). Anyway I wasn't in the mood for catholic processions and music at all and the music (which is very doomy and funeral like in those celebrations) was being played at such a loud volume I decided to close the window grumpily. I was so pissed off I decided to call it a day and order a pizza so I didn't have to go out to have dinner. I was already a huge metal fan and an obsessed audiophile back then so I always traveled with a decent portable audio setup (back then it was a decent DAC and the Shure1540s SRH)."

"I'm always looking for new interesting music in the metal realm and I had been recommended Deathspell Omega for several months. Actually I had been hearing nothing but great things about them for the last few weeks so somehow I felt that was the night to finally discover them. I ate the pizza and went back to bed (I love to lay on bed during my listening sessions). The music from the processions was somehow still leaking through the window so I was very eager to put on the headphones. And that's when it all started guys. I remember as "Obombration" started I was looking at the ceiling (it was a beautiful hotel with nice ornamentation and an overall vintage feeling). I was immediately raptured, I remember I went into a state of consciousness I had not ever experienced. If you love this album as much as I do you must know what I'm talking about. There is so much going on here guys it's just mesmerizing. I was petrified phisically, yet absolutely moved on the inside. How could a human mind conceive such a magnificent work, how was it posible to present it behind a curtain of chaos, madness and dissonance? I knew I was missing things during the voyage, everything was happening so fast and I was so enthralled I felt like a kid on his first roller coaster experience. I remember perfectly how when that amazing last part of "A Chore for the Lost" kicked in (around 7:35 of the track, I still get goosebumps) I knew the trip was coming to an end (even though I didn't know the duration of the record) it was pure instinct, I felt the artist vision, I "transcended" for the first time in my life, I became a "devotee" to Deathspell Omega instantly. I did not want it to end but I knew it was inevitable, just like death. When the trumpets of the "Obombration" outro sounded they concured with the trumpets being played outside in the ceremonial procession, completing the cathartic experience. When the album ended I could not get out of bed for half an hour, trying to understand what had just happened. I know it all sounds crazy guys but this is all very real. Not to mention Deathspell Omega became my favourite band from that moment on. When I listened to all their other albums I just couldn't believe such a great band existed. Maybe someday I'll share with you my experience with Paracletus, which was insane aswell. I hope someday Hasjarl and Khaos know what their music did to me because this is beyond music, they created something entirely transcendental here and with many of their other works, and that it's something truly remarkable. Hope you guys enjoy this crazy story."

favorite black metal album, has been for over 10 years now

This is certainly among my all-time metal favorites, too. Would venture to put WRITTEN IN WATERS, OBSCURA, and NIHIL QUAM above this. Maybe FILOSOFEM, too. But this likely makes the top 5.

I always assume metallers that have been here a while have already been forced to succumb to DSO's allure (or y'know taken czech bribes from Frost)
I mean...
"Get ready for the best band of all time to open the gates of transcendantal philosohpy inside your mind."
Is this a bit?
