so many people don't like man next door exclusively because of horace andy's vocals yet don't complain about angel and the disconnect there is annoying. not to mention that it's not often a point of critique for (exchange), nor are the plethora of other tracks he's been on on their other albums ever mentioned to this point.

also on another note exchange/(exchange) are beautiful and extremely welcome releases from the overwhelmingly claustrophobic energy that surround them. The overall experience would suffer without them. The fact that they are the "lightest" tracks on the album isn't a point of weakness to the tracks themselves, they are there to reinforce the strengths and impact of the entire album.

Yeah I like the exchanges too. They're needed indeed, a little light to make the dark even more brooding.
I don't like the vibe of MND. It's not so much the vox alone for me, is the combo of them with the melody and the lyrics and the beat, something about it takes me out of the cocoon the other tracks weave oh so effectively.

I can accept that if you don't like the instrumental itself either. Some other people need to grow up and admit that they just don't like man next door cuz it sounds like he says "fart" ;)

i'm looking at this tracklist trying to antagonise it for no particular reason and yknow what, Teardrop might be the most (only) skippable song here for me
could live with a minute of the first Exchange shaved off, but not enough to make a big point out of it. thoroughly agreed on the role of those songs, wouldn't ever want this without them
everything else is obvs watertight

This is so classic and unimpeachable that nerds sit around 25 years later trying to find flaws in it and are flummoxed
|
| |
thats the exact same opinion as saying Glory Box is skippable
like I do get the sentiment that they are overplayed, but they are overplayed because they are two of the greatest songs ever made
so while I agree, its the song that I'm least likely to listen to out of context, its no fault of the song itself, and more just the fault of media over-circulation. there is no argument to be made that they are sub-par songs.

Man next door is top 3 tracks here 🫢 certainly took years for me to vibe to though, was always a skip for me
Couldn’t agree more about the exchange tracks pots but also agree with jotw that a minute shaved off wouldn’t be awful

a minute off of exchange is a minute less of time spent listening to Mezzanine by Massive Attack. Id rather shave a minute off my LIFE
and yeah thats true man next door was a big creeper for me too

Is the man next door a snail then maybe? He's been creeping for over 15 years for me and not really getting any closer 🐌
And yes RE the fart, I heard that for a long time. Very silly.
