yea what johnny said. s/t lp is one of the hardest 3s of all time and easily their worst album

no longer making time is so good tho tbh. would possibly be a 2.5 without that song alone. if every song were that good, it would be a 4

Plus I don't usually trust in self-titled albums. Except some cases like deftones, duran duran and korn
Wait lmao what

yea i chose to ignore the mindlessness that must have gone into making that comment lul

It's so weird to me how highly this album is rated. I was a huge fan when they started, and saw them open for Ride at the Kilburn National back in 1991 when I was 17. All my friends hated them and this album was not well received by the UK music press. Time to revisit and rate it!

I watched that review once when I could still stomach his videos and from what I remember it was "waah they turned into a dream pop band"
That's because they never let go their Mojave 3 approach....

This sound must have been pretty compelling if you were around when it was first created

Would honestly put JFAD below the s/t LP, but as long as there's a consensus on those being the worst Slowdives, EPs inclusive, ig all is bliss

Album Rating: 5.0
JFAD is like .2 better and is saved bc they were kids, and also because it has Primal, one of the best ever slowdive songs

‘Plus I don't usually trust in self-titled albums. Except some cases like deftones, duran duran and korn‘
‘Wait lmao what‘ (2).
There’s SOMETHING to be said for s/t albums released later on in artist’s careers, as that just comes across as lazy. s/ts in general though, what?
|
| |
Yeah Primal is maybe the best Slowdive closer, fking stellar track. Will allow .2 for that

I try not to view s/t album as an extension of their older material directly and more as what it actually is which is them getting back together and taking on dream pop/gaze as it is now. Basically them showing up, seeing what all the kids are doing, and then reasserting their dominance by beating the new kids at their own game. Which I actually think makes it more interesting as far as comeback albums go.

i don't think they beat the new kids at their own game at all if that album alone is an attempt at that. sounds like the war on drugs or some shit except in rare bursts where it actually sounds like slowdive, ie. No Longer Making Time

I mean it’s not a classic or anything but I think the s/t album can go toe to toe with the best of modern dream pop and is plenty better than a lot of the pap associated with the label nowadays.
