I enjoyed them both on a 4/5 level on first listen, surely that's not a slant against them? :/
This on the other hand is rapidly approaching 5/5 territory - Obscura was previously my high watermark for death metal but I'm not so sure anymore after checking this album.

Obscura isn't my favorite 'Guts but I do like this more than any Gorguts record. Death in general is better imo but both slay and both are masters of consistency.

Obscura? They're good but nowhere near as good as the band that heavily influenced them in Gorguts, who has an album named Obscura (album came well before the band). Necrophagist is another one to know in that same realm...
This Death album tho absolutely rules. I didn't like it much at first
