Caught the boys for the first time last night. Spencer was sick so Misha Jake and Matt performed the set instrumentally. Was actually a pretty awesome show still... but it really showed how reliant on Spencer the band has become since the P1/P2 days. Like those long palm muted verses on Follow Your Ghost were kinda awkward without Spencer screaming his brains out over them.
Plini and Arch Echo wrecked shit too. Seriously surprised at how tight they are live considering how tech-y their songs are.
Fuck each and every crowd surfer though lmao

Ofc Plini was perfect live dont quite get why ur surprised, and yeah Arch Echo are killer as well, pretty much on the same level as Plini
I love instrumental music so Periphery playing instrumental would be no issue if I saw them live, makes me STILL want their albums instrumental officially (besides P1 obv), i dont get why Dance Gavin Dance release all their albums i instrumentally but periphery dont

Nearly every instrumental for all their songs are floating around on youtube so I guess they just think “why bother?” though it’d be cool if they threw them all on spotify for easier access.
And yeah it’d be no issue to see instrumental-Periphery live if they tailored the setlist towards it. Last night they performed songs like “Remain Indoors”, “Lune”, “Psychosphere”, and “Masamune” (set stables for the past year or so) that just aren’t adventurous enough instrumentally to stand on their own live without Spencer. You can say “oh but the fans will sing all the lyrics” but that seriously wasn’t the case last night outside of Lune and a few parts from Reptile.
Obviously can’t blame them though lmao, I’d imagine it’d be quite difficult for them to radically change the setlist mid-tour and still put out the best performance possible. Misha and Matt performed New Groove on a whim as a two-piece (like literally, no backing tracks and with Jake standing to the side watching) which was fucking awesome, and also hilariously separated the longtime fans from the newer ones who were saying “... is that Rainbow Gravity?”

They should have played all the old Bulb demo's lol, but that makes sense, the songs you listed are not as adventurous as other songs in terms of instrumentation so get what u mean

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QABMw5srB2A honestly this is some of the best periphery content, I would kill for a live show of these

I honestly love his bulb demos. If they hand picked a few, cleaned up the production, and added some vocals it would probably be their best album.
|

Bulb is better than like anything I've heard from Periphery
|
| |
How can you clown niggas say shit like this and then not rate P1 above everything else they've done.
|

Like, how?

Maybe I just haven’t dove into enough Bulb material but I feel like Bulb sounds pretty different from P1 aside from like All New Materials. P1 is way more “metal” sounding to me

Some of those songs were just retooled Bulb shit.
|

I'll fuckin bulb you dude

Bet.

I can’t believe that this thread has like a hundred pages of me and a few other people just taking mad shit about this garbage album. Don’t let the page count fool ya, folks.
