Metalcore isn't "known" for being shit but the most famous and successful artists in the genre are indeed mostly shit. Having said that, the genre is underground in nature so it's less "sifting" through stuff as much as just knowing where to look (this is my main gripe with your comment; I feel like it implies that there isn't that much good metalcore when there is so much), unlike ska where you do have to sift quite a bit.
