I mean (preemptive strike) no need to necessarily choose between them, just a handful of amazing albums that bring the pleasure hard, but yeah something about the epic narrative sweep of O is unbeatable. and *winks at evilford* "carry"...

Like all Isis albums it gets better with each listen, even when you think it can't get any better it still does.. because it's Isis

Entry into metal in general? Kinda suprised to read that, since albums like this demand a lot of patience. It would be much easier to get into 80ies Metallica, RATM or SOAD imo as an entry point, but that's just my two cents

Maybe for people who listen to post rock and don't consider nu metal as metal.. you all listened to korn back in the day, don't lie :D

yeah it depends on where you're coming from I guess, but I was amenable to genres like ambient and post-rock and whatnot before getting into metal so it definitely felt like it was meeting me halfway and whatnot

I was into rage and metallica and megadeth and soad before these guys but those are all radio metal bands. Oceanic was my entry-point to metal that wasn't radio-friendly, it was the album that made me jump down the rabbit hole

I didn't "get" this album when I first heard it but I listened to some more in the genre, came back to this and boom.
