Yeah best Death for sure.
Also nice to see you upped your rating to a 4. That 3.5 made me sad.

I still can't comprehend how some people can say this isn't dm. It's definitely one of Death's most evil sounding records too lol
Also probably said this before but that bass/guitar interplay in Trapped in a Corner is so sick m/

Do people say that?

I don't think anyone says that.

"I still can't comprehend how some people can say this isn't dm."
This is definitely death metal. It's TSOP which is where it becomes questionable.

Maybe it's just these people I know of, idk. Just some old acquaintances and a shitload of their random FB friends post music and whenever it's Death they go on about how anything after SH sucks and "isn't dm". Noticed them bashing this album recently saying a bunch of nonsense. Just a bunch of idiots who I doubt have even listened to half the albums they talk shit about.
But yeah I agree about TSoP for sure. I've seen people say stuff about that album and I can understand that, but when these dudes are talking about this or Human in the same way I'm just like what the fuck are they even talking about lol.
That 2.5 rating hurts my eyes....[2]

Anyone that acts like Death’s best albums are their first three is lying to themselves. I guess if you just really hate tech death. But I can’t imagine how anyone can say that this and Human are worse than Spiritual Healing if they’ve actually listened.

The bass on this annihilates me. Wish the bass on Human had as much of a presence.

The bass is one of the top reasons that this is my favorite Death album

Yeah the bass on this is insane.
DiGiorgio has some sick bass going on Human too though. Bass isn't as much a focus on that album obviously but it's still quite prominent. It's just not very audible on the original master. The official remix/remaster corrects that problem though. Actually, everything about that version is better tbh

"Mentally Blind" FUCKS
Album as a whole could be even better than Human and since I have that album sitting on a 4.5, the 5 potential for this one is very real... and I do feel like I need at least one extreme metal album amongst my 5s

Jammin right now...
Death really rules.
"Anyone that acts like Death’s best albums are their first three is lying to themselves."
Tbh, all Death albums rule but Human/ITP/Symbolic is like a holy trilogy, imo.
The only reason i have both human and this at 4.5 is because Symbolic is even better.
I still might bump them to 5, though. I could listen to them anytime without being bored.
Dylan, listen to the last 2 as well...i don't like the last one (the sound of perseverance) as much as this, human or symbolic but some others love it (to death).
Symbolic is, imo, the best one so you should definitely give it a spin too.

Way ahead of you :D I blitzed the final four the other morning while powering through the last of my coursework (was already familiar with Human), found both Symbolic and Perseverance to be very strong but not quite on the level of the previous two.

Individual Thought Patterns is top 3 Death for me, but I could never really get into Human or anything before it. There are some great songs on every album going all the way back to SBG, but for me Symbolic is #1, and this and SOP are tied for 2 and 3
