Most fun I've had with a noob in a while.

If they're going with all this Magic: the Gathering artwork for their albums, they need something with more cleavage.

Or something with a big axe. Not some stupid sword...

Good review, but the album isn't nearly as bad as the reviewer makes it out to be...
This isn't quite the direction I would have liked to see Trivium go after Ascendancy, but I'll still listen to it every now and then. It almost reeks of the fan-base receipt of In Flames' Reroute to Remain (which I also like ;-p)
Hopefully they put on a good show... although I'm going primarily to see Protest the Hero. This Message Edited On 10.15.06

Ya, but In Flames in "Soundtrack To Your Escape" was a bad turn but then revived themselves with "Come Clarity"...This album good but its not near as good as there last...hopefully Trivium can improve next album

I listened some more today while I was driving around,Im changing my review to a 3 as I think one of the problems with this album is a lack of consistancy. Some tracks feel out of place even though there are moments of sheer brilliance that shine through frequently enough that I cant give this album anything less than a 3 but I dont think it's solid enough of an effort to be considered an Excellent album.
I still think the review was fairly bias as there are a handfull of great, energetic tracks on this album
Songs I dig on the Crusade
Ignition
Detonation
Entrance of The Conflagration
Unrepentant
Tread the Floods
Some parts of Becoming the Dragon are a little over the top but I dig some of the solos
Now heres the problem, most of the other tracks are cheese
The Rising-Wtf,I know Paolo likes Manowar but damn, this track is way out of place and way outdated, also the lyrics are pretty cheesy
Anthem(We Are the Fire)-I wont lie and say I dont like the riff in this song as it reminds me of old motley crue and I like the rythmn of it but the lyrics are pretty bad and the oohs and ahhs are a bit uncalled for.
This World Cant Tear Us Apart-This track is the big stinker on this album with its lame,cliche',80s style lyrics and a riff that sounds awefully similar to their last ballad song,Dying in Your Arms.
To the Rats-Hmmm,something about this track is too punky.
Contempt Breeds Contamination-I actually like alot of parts in this one but it has too much of a southern rock feel to it and it doesnt fit right with the majority of the other tracks.
The Crusade-Not a demonstration of technique, but it's abit too long and loses its focus alot and goes into some very proggy territory.
So there ya go,I'm not beyond having a dislike or distaste for Trivium.I hope this clears up some earlier opinions formed due to my anger of seeing such a low score for something that I thought was at least "Good".

I think if Trivium decides to go into the studio with the intent of making a "Trivium" album that has a more focused sound, they defineately still have the potential to be a HUGE band.
They need to lose the "This is a southern-rock song" "This is a hair metal song" "This is a progressive song" attitude that they seemed to have on this one.
This band just needs to focus more and they are likely to achieve greatness with time and a more focused effort.

@Sharkmenow...I thought "Ignition" wasn't that good at all...espically at the start of the song...he drags his voice and it sounds awful "Raise the Guuuuuuuns"...it drives me nuts...though the solo is pretty good thats the only highlight.
"Detonation" is pretty much the same thing, the start of the song is very bad...but the rest is pretty good
Anthem minus the simple lyrics is a awesome
P.S. sorry for the triple post it kinda froze a little bitThis Message Edited On 10.15.06

Hmm I like Ignition, while not the most technical and aggressive metal song(the riffing is pretty basic)It's a good starter track and the hook is really catchy with all that melody goin on.

It gets better but the start of the song really makes me grind my teeth...it seemed forced intro...maybe its just me anyone else feel the same?

Hmmm, maybe an acoustic intro would have better suited the song.On that note,Trivium released the Anthem Ep and it had two unreleased songs on it.
One of those songs,Broken One,is a great song and anyone interested should give it a listen.

One thing I really like about this album is how the lyrics actually mean something as opposed to the often over-used,cliche',morbid,dark.and sometimes just downright cornball lryics 80% of the bands out there use.
Most of the best metal came during the 80s,when the Reagan administration was in power and crack was taking over the streets, aids, conflict in the middle east and russia, and all that stuff.Bands used these events to inspire their music and lyrics and it turned out quite well(megadeth, metallica, hell even slayer, etc, etc).
Even though some of these events are 5-6 yrs old now, they are still relevant and make for pretty meaningfull lyrics...most of the time.
I think more metal bands need to address current or past events that are significant to us as a society more often.I think if more bands were to do this, metal would be taken a little more seriously by outsiders, and not thought of as a parady, which is what most of them think......not like I care about those people anyways.

I hereby decree that you are forbidden from using the word "bias" until you actually learn what it means.

You do realize you're setting yuorself up for a massive flamefest, right?
Even though some of these events are 5-6 yrs old now
The 80's was 5 years ago? When did this happen?

Contradiction much.
Dude, I have no problem with bands that deal with current events, but bands like Lost Horizon would be rendered less awesome if they got involved with politics. The sociopolitical relevancy of a band's lyrics should not be that important. Sometimes I would rather just have fun than be reminded why I dislike Republicans. This Message Edited On 10.15.06

I rule every comment since page seven be deleted seeing as they don't progress anything at all and instead repeat themselves eight or so times.

I'll second that, but we should keep they funny ones...because they're funny and I like to read them.

I can't stand that Sharkmeow clown. There is too much "I can do this" and "I think that and your opinion is raught", and "the review is biased." You know I read AllMusic.com reviews, and some are good, but Jesus, other are just atrocious, but it's not like I'm gonna go and email the reviewers with hate mail. What you need to realise Sharkmneow is that everyone has their owndless clowning ar opinion. All you appear to be doing is throwing yours in every one's faces; it's really annoying and unnecessary. Adding remarks about how are a 12 year musician, classical guitar genius, and turned metal guitarist blah blah blah is irrelevant and makes it look more like you are trying to make yourself look good amongst everyone else on these forums.
You strike me as very, very egotistical. I would just seriously suggest you just leave it. Who cares, did you ever think that perhaps that guy over there hates what you listen to. Who cares! It doesn't matter, you need to let go, and forget about all of this mindless talk. You are not Adolf Hitler, spreading forth your power over these forums, capable of turning the innocent civilian into a Trivium idoliser, that my friend is something which you cannot do.
I don't see the big deal anyway. I bought this album, and I really don't like it, nor did I like Ascendancy, though it seemed better. To me Heafy seems a little arrogant, and while he may be talented I don't think he's a great vocalist. The rest of the band too may be talented, but there is nothing appealing in their music for me. I seriously cannot draw inspiration from it. That's just me though.
What TwoHeadedBoy said about the Legend of Zelda artwork was classic though! lmao

I am a Trivium fan and a metalcore fan and I must say I enjoy this album but I agree that they have definitely taken the Metallica thing a little too far. Instead of going towards individuality are straying from it. Great review.

I've felt that way for a long time. They could be a great band but with this album the band tried to rehash music they grew up on instead of really finding their own voice. Matt Heafy admitted that they're trying to make music they actually like to listen to, but I think they took that description to heart a bit too rigorously when writing.
Unfortunately, I absolutely hate the lyrics on this album. As far as the topics they wrote about go, the lyrics Heafy came up with terribly cliched.

My thoughts exactly. Every single person in the band has lots of talent, but they just need to try and be themselves, and not someone else.
