Been jamming out H&G some more and had to bump up a couple spots in my ranking, growing on me quite a bit. We’ll see if it goes higher
I wouldn’t have said this just a few days ago, but it’s a highly underrated album. I think it gets some flak just for being so long and FEELING long, despite the songs being great. Legitimate criticism. It is better listened in batches. An hour and a half of continuous Mastodon becomes kinda too much to process, sounds start to blend, too intricate for our feeble brains to process for so long. Ofc it’s different seeing them live.

this is a very rare record for me (esp as far as Mastodon goes) where i can't single out a song which i don't like as much as the others. might be a 5 at this point tbh

Actually getting mildly excited to check this. Seems to genuinely be getting pretty positive responses

More people should reiterate that this sounds like a Mastodon album
I never would have guessed

Album is big fine. Modestly enjoyable and technically impressive, like most 'don.
Listened to Remission yesterday and can't help but feel that they're missing the "fun" factor here, but I s'pose that'd be difficult to do given the context of the record.

Remission is underrated af
|

How can it be under rated?
You just mean in terms of the newer fans to the band not repping it?
|
| |
That and its average being 3.8. Album is a stone cold classic

Remission fs deserves more respect, though I think it receives its due recognition from music heads. Not quite my favorite Mastodon record, but there's a certain magic that exists when a band has nothing to prove (other than they're batshit crazy).

Dude, 3.8 is leagues far from underrated. Even 3.6 is a high score on this site.
|
| |
3.8 can be underrated if the album is perceived to be better than that score
These are things I shouldn't have to say out loud, but here we are

@meborphous, that may be true

Yeah, and TVSOR is underrated, and Spiritual Healing is underrated, and The Sanguinary Impetus is also underrated. Anything close to 4.0 but not at least 4.0 is painfully low. I understand that your fives rarely have averages below that threshold but I just don't understand what's there to complain about. No hate, just curious.

@ Obrother - eh.
I'm not sure where I'd place Marrow at the moment; don't think I could come to a conclusion one week after its release.
Maybe ford bro just disagrees with Remission's rating within Mastodon's own discography. Site consensus implies that it's barely 6th best, which I would also disagree with.
