1000% agreed on the no-wankery thing. It frustrates me when people's only conceptualization of prog is that a band is technical or has long songs.

this is decidedly better than Sound Awake from an album-as-a-whole perspective imo

I discovered Vool with this record, and I have gone back to all the others .. the others have definitely not clicked with me (yet) like this one - not to say they aren't very good, but this is special.

Sound Awake definitely better as a whole and in general!

I think this grew on me significantly but the peaks of Sound Awake are unmatched imho.

Damn getting to hear this first then move to Sound Awake would be so peak.

Nah after jamming Sound Awake HARD I agree that In Verses is better as a whole. SA some crazy peaks (New Day, All I know), a lot of solid stuff, and some songs I really don't like (Hive; Medicine). IV is just non stop top quality (IMO). NAturally this may change with more exposure.

Damn I had forgotten about this. Not a huge fan but def like their stuff. Especially Themata (the album, but love the song too).
From what I see here and on Reddit, this rivals their best material! Damn. I should probably check this out then. Tbh I don’t LOVE the singer’s voice. It’s ok, but I think it does keep me from loving these guys. I do like a lot of their stuff though.

Remote Self Control is great y'all are trippin

I really love this album guys. Periphery is my favorite band so A Pale White Dot was gonna be my album of the year just by default but idk, this one is really sticking with me.

Having reconsidered this record in relation to a re-engagement with this band's entire discography, I must say: this outfit's sound does not hold up to critical scrutiny, it really turns bland after a couple of listens. The same goes for this record which is on par with most of their other material in showing glimpses of promise hidden beneath the sludge of their sterile overly poppified aesthetic and sonic approach.

LOL ^. "this outfit's sound does not hold up to critical scrutiny".
No, it does not hold up to YOUR critical scrutiny. You say that as if you are the arbiter of criticism. Just say you don't like it - simple and fair play if you don't.
