I'm just surprised they didn't misgender or deadname her. I feel like Fox would've been eager to jump on that opportunity

I don't know this group or the controversial backstory,
but it reminded me of Janis Ian's performance with Howard stern about Seinfeld's 17 year old girlfriend when he was 38 at the height of his popularity, Janis added some new lyrics to her song "17" i think i just misread "Cain" as "Ian"

The end of “Pulldrone” is some superb brain-numbing drone

keep returning to this, might be the first great album of the year for me
|

Have no idea what her other music is like but this is pretty close to being a 5/5 for me rn. Fell asleep with this on my headphones and every time I woke up to it I was blown away. Insane EP
|

falling asleep multiple times through a good album that moves at the speed of drying paint is unironically the best way to experience music

Jonathan, I should mention I heard it awake before I heard it “asleep”. But you’re entitled to your opinion nephew. Kinda wish she would’ve done a whole album of silent hill industrial drone but that’s another discussion

will listen in my sleep for a fair comparison before this gets the 3-3.5 it probably deserves (find ethel cain p gauche even if she's based for striking out on this one), but am being entirely earnest otherwise. clouddead, love supreme, white clouds drift on and on, dreamtime return, various vladislav delay albums have all been 11/10 transcendental peaks in and out of sleep in the last yr or so

I also like sleeping to this. Pulldrone may not be my first choice for relaxing since the first time I tried it woke me up with dread and confusion, but now that one works as well. Amazing album with a very special atmosphere.

“82 user score on AOTY (only 3 below Preacher's Daughter) and highest average on RYM of literally any of her projects”
Check it again. It’s like 77 now. It’s plummeted everywhere. Lost its star lol. It’s the only album of hers without a star now. I loved Preacher’s Daughter. But this is trash. And it was my most hyped albums in some time. It’s been on the downtrend since it came out. Punish is incredible and so is Amber Waves but the rest of everything here is just awful. And fluffs it out beyond words. As I have said if this was a “Punish/Amber Waves” single this would be an easy 5. But the way this is, it’s terrible. I feel bad giving this a 2 but tbh it would be a 1 without those tracks. They’re the only things bringing me back to this.

I still fux with it but I’ll admit that I really dont like drone music enough to listen to it a ton, tbh this is literally probably the only drone/ambient record I’ll listen to this year.
Agreed on Punish/Amber Waves being the best tracks here but I still like the rest of it. As far as reviews and reception or whatever go… this isn’t comparable to Preacher’s Daughter at all, I’m not surprised user reception is weaker. I mean, it’s by far the least accessible thing she’s done so far.

i'm really surprised by the integrity of the project. the ambient/drone tracks are solidly produced and all feel like they're intentional and well thought out in length and progressions. better than most albums within the genre from the past few years, tbh. might even prefer it to hayden in pop mode, this seems much more in line with her intuition as a musician.
