The 3:00-4:30 section of Way of the Fire made think this would be better than it wound up being. I mean, the part basically just sounds like Devy, but I ain't mad at it.

This feels like the proper follow up for their fantastic debut we all anticipated from this band. Its not grabbing me with any kind of special sauce yet, This seems like something that would require more repeated listens to absorb and appreciate.
The constant cursive oscillations on the strings seem excessive to the point one would feel they are obliged to fund for jars' next katana dueling fightclub like how the whole steamy sauna studio went on. Its giving me trying too hard vibes. Maybe I'll appreciate it more with future listens
But was all that crowdfunding, studio drama, 2 shit albums, sauna baths and 20 years in making worth it? To my ears I don't think so.

Good album

I still havent decided how to rate this. I think that neither dislike of his personality (none of the bm classics could have a score greater than 2 otherwise) nor the time and bollocks-show about the delay should influence the rating of the album. I love s/t and I actually enjoyed the forest seasons and there is a lot of goodness in Time II also. But this sounds so bad, that it ruins the music to a great extent. For me this is on par with Nattens Madrigal in terms of sound quality but for very differed reasons. Also, I absofOckinglutely hate the business practice of publishing a shit sounding album for the regular price and dynamic version for triple the price.

I mean it is objectively very funny that jari grifted all that money for building his million dollar studio/sauna combo only to use it to make for worst sounding shit ever.

Hawks being a real one and separating the (douchebag) artist from the art here lol.
This bores the crap out of me. Can't deny it's really well put together and definitely has some epic moments but idk . Meh overall. Haven't listened to it in months, might have to bump down.

it'd be more well put together if he simply dropped 80% of the orchestra that just sounds like a bunch of distracting orchestra crashes in the middle of the heavy bits. they're so overwrought and to think they were a big reason this took so long is astonishing.
that and finding a decent guitar VST.
it took 11 years to badly mix the dreadful orchestra and bog-standard sounding guitars on this album. what a fucking grift.

I'd say the orchestral pieces themselves are quite well done but you're also basically right in that was you essentially just said is that they're not well integrated and don't mesh well with the "regular" instruments and I totally agree with that.

in terms of composition they're fine for what they are - just doesn't meld. he'd have been better off simplifying it and using a smoother string section to simply compliment the metallic instrumentation, but alas.
i understand wanting to separate the art and artist here since y'know he isn't a terrible dude he's just a moron but like... i dunno man, the context behind this album explains so much of what you're hearing and therefore it's hard to ignore. he is a moron that writes good riffs at least.
