It's worth noting that this took some time to grow. After 1 spin I was pretty indifferent to most of it. Def got better with subsequent plays

Yo Doof I forgot to respond to you a few pages back but I just heard Mercury and wow, what a stunner.

Hell yeah calm, I remember briefly checking Illinois and Michigan and loving them a few years ago but he kinda fell on the back burner with all the shit I listen to. I only have so much time to jam lol
Spinning thru all his stuff again today and yeah wow amazing stuff. Illinois especially sounds better than ever

Gyro - hoped you'd dig that one, so good it almost makes that whole slog of an album worth the time
I've run out of top tier Sufjan tunes to recommend but an interesting one I heard for the first time yesterday is 'Dear Mr. Supercomputer' from the 'Illinois' B-Sides album.
I'm not too confident it would make your comp but it's one of the more 'different' sounding tracks from him and the ending is really good in particular.

its just too cheesy/twee for me
im realizing it might've always been his voice for me... when its hiding under electronics i like him better.

'parts of this sound like the fucking lion king soundtrack'
first few listens I was thinking 'those backing vocals will ruin this for me' but then a couple more listens and I think they're the most important element now.
I guess I just like the idea this album could have been as melancholic as 'C&L' in terms of the song writing but this time there's this uplifting/transcendent quality in how it's all presented.
dunno

maybe i'll enjoy it more on future listens, i do think this is at its best when it leans hard into the fairy tale magic and less into his trademark indie-folkisms (so far)
