Gave this another listen. I still dont understand how you can be jaded enough by modern metal and hardcore to make this record. Still mind boggling.
Couple decent tracks here and there but still leaves me completely befuddled to this day.

The first half of this is really good. Mask of Sanity is sneaky good. The only tracks I'll straight up skip are
I Fly and Snapshot. Circle Through barely makes it. Overall a solid record.

Damn I Fly really grew on me but I can agree w the others. It's crazy the negative reception to this album contributed to the band's break up whether they admit it or not

Has Reba dropped anything else? That one song she had was good

not that I know of but Reba dropped a solo track and she’s been playing guitar
for Marilyn Manson

I don't think they've broken up but one of their guitarists had serious health issues so they cancelled basically all of their tour dates and haven't really posted anything about the band in a while. Really hope they come back in some form because they have a unique sound and good energy live.

Take Shape is still an absolute jam.

Yea I probably shouldn't have said they broke up but its nuts the band hasn't had any real updates since cancelling the tour for this record

I haven't bothered with this. Felt burned by this band tbh.

It's definitely worth a listen even if you don't love it. There's a lot of interesting stuff on this (mix of industrial / electronic / grunge / nu metal / core) and I appreciate any band that takes real chances.

I am king is the last album this band did that wasn’t full of misses for me

Mask of Sanity is even better after not listening to the album for awhile.

It’s unfortunate what has happened to Code Orange. The momentum for Underneath got destroyed by the pandemic and The Above was undercut by health issues, rumored low ticket sales, and the winter break between album release and the first album promotion tour.

It did seem like the album landed with a thud.

Damn that sucks, I'm actually a pretty big fan of these guys

Yea I don't think this band is ever coming back. From what I've gleaned from their socials, the drummer and the Macbook player in the band aren't stoked on Reba's extracurricular stuff and are now focusing on producing and running a label.

Joining Marilyn Manson is not a twist I saw coming for anyone in this band, but I guess it makes sense given their trajectory. Their debut is still awesome but I've just heard other releases piecemeal and feel like I'm not missing much.

Honestly it’s diminishing returns up until this record. I Am King is cool, Forever is just a weaker version of that. Underneath went half nu metal while still trying to be hard and it sucked and honestly I begrudgingly respect this absolute mess of an album. There’s seriously some great tunes here but there’s some real dogshit too.
Debut reigns supreme. After that id say I Am King, then this, then Forever, then Underneath. I think the little EP with the Corey Taylor feature is decent aside from that boring ass remix. The two original songs on it are great.
I really want to live in a world where they continue on the trajectory set by Love is Love instead of becoming the equivalent of butt rock but “hardcore”
Still sucks what happened to them. I managed to catch them opening for Deftones, fuck, probably ten years ago now, and they killed it. Even if I think they kinda suck I still think they deserved more success. They worked their asses off and got fucked by circumstance. And people can talk shit all day about Marilyn Manson, and I will join them, but I also won’t pretend that if that fuckin guy asked me to be his touring guitarist I would absolutely without question seize that opportunity. Good for Reba. She’s easily always been the most talented person in the band.
