liking this and having anadulcia at the bottom is crazy to me fr one of the coolest instrumentals on the album by far and i actually really do like the vocals. it’s the same genre of slowdive as sugar for the pill but much better imo

Both those songs are among their best though 🤔
I’ll be picking any holes elsewhere

To be fair I'm not really all that into shoegaze as a genre so it might be that...

Nowhere near Pygmalion, but still pretty amazing release, easily tops S/T for me. Probably I wouldn't like "kisses" that much if I hadn't seen the video, but I did and I'm glad for it. That song has a huge Alps-era Motorama-feel to it imo.

Seems opinion is very divided on what the best tracks are, interesting. Maybe shows people listen to Slowdive for different reasons?
My faves are 'alife' and 'chained to a cloud'

If I could vote this a 3.7 I would. It is better than a 3.5 but it's not a 4

I’ve listened to this a lot this past week.
A four. Not as good as the previous album but things change as the months and years pass.

great album, but I think the singles were the best 3 songs on the album for me. andalucia plays is gorgeous though. No song is bad, but outside of those 4 songs, nothing else was memorable to me. Actually can't even think how another song goes, and I've probably heard the record front to back 5 or 6 times now

"Part of that haunted feeling emerges from the vocals—on “skin in the game” and “andalucia plays,” Halstead’s voice sounds slightly harrowed, closer to Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan than to the Jesus and Mary Chain’s Jim Reid. "
pitchfork out there stealing my takes from sput threads smh (liked their piece on this though!)
