I've never really NEEDED Justin broadrick to "move forward"
This is a damn fine Godflesh album, as someome around since early days, I love it.

i feel critics don't really get the profoundly personal, religious and spiritual nature of the project for Justin.
It's pretty important to him that it is the way it is, and sounds the way it does. He's got other projects and has experimented with different sounds and stuff, but godflesh isn't that space.

Listened to this album a couple of days ago. Started listening and later realized I'd had gone through the entire thing without noticing. Very hypnotic which makes a lot of sense considering the drum loops and repeating riffs being a staple of their sound. I really dig it, but I need to take the time to hone in on its nuances a little more.

Godflesh has always been consistently great. I don't think there's a bad or even banal album in the discography which is quite a feat for a band that's been around what? 35 years now?

Oh, I just misunderstood. Jesu on the other hand... eh but I kinda get that's more of Justin's experimental outlet anyway.
|
| |
Yeah im not crazy about jesu either but I appreciate that he has so much creative output

He's an unbelievable workhorse, this, jesu, final, greymachine(albeit the one album) with as enough identity to feel unique for each project too. He's one of the most admirable musicians in metal.

but some peeps aren’t into industrial techno

Weird how this seems to be the most divise post-reunion Godflesh release

Worst Godflesh album by a wide margin. They've never been the most musically broad band at all, but this is so fucking lazy and boring. NERO and ARMY OF NON are essentially the same song. PERMISSION and THE FATHER are at least interesting to listen to, but too bad the whole album is mixed like shit. Meh.
