The title track is actually incredible, might be better than ascensionism.

“ A score of 0.5 is honestly a farce for this album and pretty much undermines…”

Not at all. You can just admit you like the album and feel bad the review is such a low score. This butthurt shit just makes you look salty and like you’re completely throwing rationality out the window to lash back at the score and overall dislike. You disagree with the rating, great. Obscuring that simple point with lame crap about the rating being a farce or sullying the nonexistent cred of the site (as if it would really matter even if the site did have credibility) is corny and reads like a tantrum.

"the review is a valid stance to take, it's just every time this happens Johnny will feature his own review, completely ignoring the great work done by Matteo in this case, Johnny abuses his power as a staff member a lot and it's very unprofessional"

this is partially why i liked him more before he became staff.

its the same lame shit where people try and assert some form of objectivity based only on their subjective enjoyment, and negative opinions must be 'biased' whilst their positive opinions aren't

Exactly. It feels like when someone reviews Lana Del Rey negatively or Taylow Swift or something.

Im boooooored god I hope this picks up. Also does Vessel (i suspect his real name is Jeremy for some reason) sound like this live?? The lyrics+their cult thing they have going on do not match up. Edit: On Aqua now apparently this ones pretty good so

all of these takes are biased it's kind of the nature of the beast. to me though it feels like there's something DEEPER going on here with johnny's review. it's not just "this sounds like shit" there has to be some malintent. some psy-op. some industry plant thing.

i was gonna be part of a gimmicky project like this a few years ago but things fell through. it wasn't for whatever johnny here thinks it is, it was just a unique gimmick idea to get our music a few extra listens by using marketing to be like "hey we're here we write cool shit and our band has a gimmick the make us stand out." sometimes it's just that shrimple. and sometimes that's just what you gotta do in this hellscape of an economy to even make a penny off this industry. curse you, capitalism.

Id be down for the whole cult gimmick if their lyrics backed up and sold the concept

^ i also thought the rnb-style vocals and djent were at odds with the cult thing too. Like, djenty R. Kelly got a cult and it’s supposed to be cool?

The thing is they could be way better off without djent shit? It feels like a much more comfortable place for them. His harsh vox fucking blow chunks. Like if you are going for a concept of a cult/worship thing go all in.

Just listening now, this is pretty good! The Summoning is a great tune.

It's not that I thought the album was amazing, it isn't. Sleep Token is a band I want to like but a lot of their songs can tend to get a bit dreary for me. Some of the singles for this I album, I thought were pretty good, but when the whole album released, I didn't remember any of the other songs. So I was really left hoping for more.
I just found the review dripping with contempt and the amount of vitriol seemed quite unjustified. Sure, it's a bit of a meh album, but is it really deserving of that much hate?
More than anything I was left thinking, this dude really needs a hug.

His harsh vox give me a serious blackgaze vibe and I kinda sorta really dig them. It's like the heavier sections are a cross between Deafheaven and TesseracT and they rule.

@ Ectier
Agreed. This isn’t my thing, but the djent definitely feels weak and forced to me. What does it add that something else couldn’t provide better if they want something to bring a bit of energy?

His harsh vox are fucking horrible. If you dropped the djent or even the harsh vocals as a whole this would be a better experience. Ascensionisim would be far better without the heavy sections also it would be shorter which it had no right being 7 minutes

I mean either you're not into blackgaze or...idk. he'd totally fit in like Illyria or something imo.

I am into black gaze, Autumn for Crippled kiddos, deafheaven, Alcest, Holy fawn. Its also hard to judge his vocals because they are feel like they are covered in so many layers or buried

Just feel like the djenty stuff takes away from it. This isnt for me, Im glad people enjoy it and have connected with it, I have given it a spin and tried it out. Its by no means awful its perfectly average for me.

@Tundra
That’s just disingenuous. No one’s saying they have to do anything or actually change their sound. Just thoughts on the sound.
