“I'd take about 4 songs from St Anger over anything from here except maybe Inamorata”. Which ones off St Anger?

"Fire Lars and Kirk.."
Everyone got on Lars' meme bandwagon but Kirk is the most annoying thing here.

I feel like firing Lars would make the band worse

Kirk Hammett hits back at solo trolls: “My friends down the street could probably play a better solo than Lux Æterna – but what’s the point?”

Are they still making unnecessarily long pop thrash like the last two albums?

"Kirk Hammett hits back at solo trolls:"
interesting opinions by kirk here, though i would also say only playing interchangeable minor pentatonic solos for the past 25ish years is lame too. there's a middle ground that kirk is just as far away from as all the boring sweep pickers he's condemning

“My friends down the street could probably play a better solo than Lux Æterna – but what’s the point?”
Weird thing to say, so it's great for a title lol. A better/cooler solo is a great point for doing that tbh. Kirk's solos are really boring on this and Hardwired

I would be happier with the article if Kirk actually did good solos that served the songs tbh

The possibility of these guys releasing something as groundbreaking as the albums from '91 and back converges asymptotically to zero with every new release, simply because nowadays there’s no studio producer that will stand up to these guys and say "doing 11-minute songs in 2023 probably won’t work".
In the '80s, their mine was rich in ore and guys like Fleming Rasmussen knew how to keep things tight, without throttling Metallica's talent.
Even Bob Rock got to operate like that with Metallica, but immediately right after, it went irreversibly downhill.

Probably true, they're too big to be edited
Still, Kirk had some awesome solos on DM, like The Day That Never Comes and Unforgiven III. I am sure he could do better if he cared to do so

^^^ This would mean putting actual effort into your work and to harness your brand and iconic status for good intentions like you actually cared for your audience or had anything interesting to say.

Lars and Kirk are both very unprofessional for being in the biggest metal band of all time tbh

Any fart from these guys has 15 million followers; all they have to do is hang out and do something.

Kirk's lead playing here is so stale and low effort
|

The "too big to be edited" maxim is the plague of every major metal band in the 21st century, songwriting/sound production-wise.

kirk’s leads are good when he isn’t soloing, like his little licks on the verses and shit. He clearly doesn’t give a fuck about soloing anymore bc these solos were lame

They took away his solos on St. Anger and he has been sticking it to James and Lars ever since.
