We have to figure out if this is a Deftones rip-off or not before we can discuss the record, dems the rules
As much as I like this record, it does disappoint me that most of the bands embracing 90s alt metal start and stop at Deftones, I feel like there’s more you can do with that genre

Ye I know it's been beaten to death here as I can tell just by looking at a couple pages of comments, but this really is poor man's Deftones. Whereas Deftones has some songs that make you go "wow", this was just a nice soundscape with no songs really jumping out that much. Both vocalists are good but not excellent (certainly not chino-level). As others have mentioned, the pacing is great. Definitely liked that.
They need to work on making some more interesting riffs/ideas, they have the foundation already there to be incredible if they work on that

Nothing triggers the Sputnik metalcore community more than “this sounds like deftones” hahaha.
I definitely hear more than just that, as relinquished has pointed out lots of times itt, but to imply that influence isn’t there is just hilarious

Did anyone figure out what the audio sample is in The Razor’s Apple and Kiss The Ladder?

backstairs breathing might have my favourite moment on this album but it feels incomplete as a song

I want someone who thinks this is a Deftones ripoff to transcribe any track off this as well as a Deftones song, and then explain in the context of those transcriptions how it's a ripoff. A song can't be a ripoff for sounding superficially/aesthetically similar when the notes-on-the-page songwriting is different.
This sounds like Deftones sometimes, but it also sounds unlike Deftones a lot of the time. It's also really fucking good. Better than at least half of Deftones' catalog.

Album Rating: 5.0 | Sound Off
Similarities:
Both shoegaze, hazy guitars
Slow paced songs and same groove
Both have a bird on their album
Differences:
Fleshwater mostly has Mirsy doing the vocals, and she's higher-pitched
WNHTBL has faster paced songs and a much different aesthetic
Deftones older stuff sounds a bit more grungy and has some Jane's Addiction style shouts
Fleshwater sounds like they have more effects in their guitars

“ ive heard one deftones album”
Not worth it to listen to more, in my opinininion. The band would be so much better with a different singer, one who didn’t sing like a pervert with a collapsed lung and hairy palms.
L.D. 50 should’ve been the one to be the big influence
