Listened to this one 4-5 times in the last couple weeks and it's as good as ever.
This was so far ahead of its time.
Sad.

Agreed. At least the band gave us some demos after splitting. Black Mass in particular sounds like it could have been a B-side on this album.

some of the phantasma demos might do it for you and the occasional one off like worms of the earth but generally you just gotta look to other post hardcore from there imo

World Of Violence demos have some bangers in there too. Funny how the band tried twice to make records that go in a more experimental / heavier direction and broke up each time. Seems to me there's a contingent in the band that straight up didn't like that direction and wanted to just keep playing WIITB / BTO-style dad rock. Le sigh

I've been listening to World Of Violence demos for years and love them to pieces. Had no idea there was another batch of demos. They struck gold with this album, so sad that they squandered it.

Finally listened to Phantasma today. On first listen I was a bit underwhelmed but on second listen I'm really happy with it. It definitely sounds way safer than SHTS or WOV, but there's a lot to love on it. What You Are is so damn catchy and infectious, and the last several tracks are absolutely killer, especially Monuments! It was so good to finally hear these lost demos. Not as good as WOV demos, but this batch of songs is not shabby at all, it blows my mind that this band wrote and recorded two fucking full-length albums that never saw the light of day... Total insanity, there must have been some MAJOR internal strife in the band, I would kill to see a documentary one day of wtf actually happened... seems like there's a real story there. What kills me the most is when these guys play together they sound so totally on the same page, it's kind of immaculate, but who knows what actually happened behind the scenes.

I actually like What You Are, These Buildings Are Burning and Monuments the least from Phantasma. I think they are the most generic songs on there. You are right on the other hand, though... Upon further listening, I think Phantasma is miles better then Oblivion, but still not on the same level as their Sunshine or Violence albums.
