"Man I find this thing impenetrable but I am interested to all hell by it. Listened about half a dozen times now and still doesn't click but I know its in there. Give me some encouragement, people"
If you can and haven't done so yet, try giving this a listen while on a walk; I found that engaging with my surroundings with this playing really helped it open up and I picked up on things that were lost on me just sitting down and listening

Yeah I have always sought out albums from this site that really challenge me in different ways. I think that's why we are all here, but its really become a massive hobby of mine to work through "the classics" even if they are not my particular taste. It will make a better musician and enrich my life so I like to stick with it. This happens to be one that has really be a tough nut to crack

I think that's how it is for a lot of people. It took me a while to fully enjoy Obscura, but once I got there, it was so damn rewarding

Just kidding it’s not obscura straight through but it’s a lot of it with some of the first two LPs as well

Yeah, I didn’t ‘understand’ this at all to begin with (was literally one of the first DM albums I’d heard) but it intrigued me enough to persevere. Honestly, some of this just sounded kind of badass and I loved the eerie weirdness / aesthetic or whatever, even if it was tough getting into the riffs or unearthing any immediate memorability. It’s so dense, especially if you’re not used to hearing dissonant / experimental death metal.
Nowadays it’s my fave DM album.

Man. These guys were so good last weekend. They were already one of my favorite DM bands, but seeing them do this live and do it SO well was inspiring. This was the first time they ever toured in my state and I'm so glad I got to be there.
