"It's wild how something can be so busy and boring at the same time."

Yeah I get the feeling.

“Music isn’t a chore” is an odd rebuttal. Plenty of music takes multiple listens to “unlock” and have things stick and make sense. At least I wouldn’t want to live in a world where every album’s first listen is perfectly digestible and bereft of any mystique from the get-go. Doesn’t have to be a chore to get there either

Think 7:52 of Human is Hell is supposed to be a call back to 7:15 of Obfuscation. Same groove and notes just slowed down and up an octave

Metal died in 1993. Only 12 good albums have been released since then (most of them in 1994, being already recorded by 1993). Metal achieved its creative peak in albums like Onward to Golgotha, Pure Holocaust, and The Red in the Sky is Ours, elevating the genre into a legitimate art form. Now, thanks to BTBAM and Gojira, all its potential was squandered and the genre has been reduced into being mere gimmick ridden noise for drunk idiots (i.e. the lowest common denominator - stop trying to turn underground metal into AC/DC).

Can't help but feel like this review doesn't actually say anything at all? lol

These criticisms have follow btbam like a shadow since after the original colors -and some would even levy them at the original colors.

Most of their records don't hit me immediately and its only upon repeated listens that I can really discover what makes them great but I think they nailed this one on the head. I have listened to it like six times since release and I keep discovering new things. I think if you're a fan of this band, I don't see how this album fails to live up to its billing for you.

Yeah I totally understand the law of diminishing returns criticism from Johnny in particular pages and pages ago... but idk it just hasn't happen for me with these guys, at least not yet. Each and every listen there's a detail here and there I never noticed before, even on the older stuff I've heard a million times let alone this album that has tons of references to their previous material all throughout.

The first half of this album is like a reflection of Automata I. A focused and inspired work with trademark moments of oddness thrown in without detracting entirely from the atmosphere. Genuinely heavy, experimental, and feels inspired. I love it.

The second half of this album is like a reflection of Automata II. Wankery that feels like it's going nowhere with the exception of some solid moments like the second half of Bad Habits, the last minute and a half of The Future Is Behind Us, and some of Human Is Hell.

Am I the only one who thinks the second half of this record is the best thing ever?
