@Tundra, it doesn't need to be exactly like Colors because it's not Colors. Actually, as a whole, I like it better than Colors.

And I do prefer the softer vocals and musicianship over the harsh's and 'techdeathy' chaos, but find the balance to be perfect. The song has at least 6 verses or so with the harsh's, including one that Blake and Tommy trade off on which was a nice touch, so it has plenty.

I'm glad you have a btbam album you can consider that high of acclaim for. As for me, I have 3 others albums from this band I consider to be masterpieces that I prefer. If this album garner's the band more fans, or even returning fans after many years, that's awesome, seriously.

I can't stand Parallax II, but tbh I feel like this band has a fan base that's more divided than most.

I'd take Coma and the two Automata albums over Parallax II any day of the week.

This is also in my top 3 BTBAM now, just in behind Silent Circus and TGM.

I can't comprehend liking TGM and not liking Parallax II tbh. They are really really similar in my opinion. In fact, I often listen to them one after the other without a hitch.

I thought nobody liked The Great Misdirect because it was the LP after Colors etc

It's my personal favorite

I didn't initially like TGM, but it grew on me like crazy and is definitely Top 3. Coma also recently, and suddenly, grew on me so ranking BTBAM is pretty hard.

People probably dislike it for many of the same reasons people dislike prog rock Opeth. Except, unlike prog rock Opeth it's actually good.

That mellotron refrain in Revolution in Limbo reminds me of Ghost Reveries era Opeth.

It's incredible indeed. Whoever mentioned the way that this echos 80s Rush at times, I am definitely getting those vibes too. The synths are what are standing out the most to me on this. He's evolved leaps and bounds as a keyboardist over the years.
