“Desperate Things” really hit for me tonight. It brought back a memory, a time when me and some friends almost made a bad, bad mistake. I remember how dark the canyon was when we shut the car off. Spooky. Eerie. The desert sky was filled with stars and the moon was nowhere to be found. The air was cold and still. The last verse just about made me run off the road. Powerful.

This is really outstanding. I can't believe this is the same band I basically wrote off after Day & Age. These guys were basically dead to me

The more I listen to this, the less impressed I am to be honest. At the start I was thinking 4.5, now I'm more like a 3.5.
I find Brandon Flowers' voice to be really irritating on West Hills, And Terrible Thing is indeed a terrible thing.
Still a lot to like though. Quiet Town (in particular) is amazing.

Alright I had “Brandon Flowers says uses ‘Hillbilly heroin pills’ a chorus” in the 2021 betting pool, time y’all pay up

Okay like 3 songs in and this is just swimming in "untouchably massive megastars bravely take it upon themselves to be a voice for the voiceless and aren't we blessed" vibes

"Alright I had “Brandon Flowers says uses ‘Hillbilly heroin pills’ a chorus” in the 2021 betting pool, time y’all pay up"
ah yes more evidence for my dossier entitled 'porcupinetheater is actually brandon flowers theories'
you see it all started a few years back, when brandon flowers PM'd me and said "hey I'm sputnikmusic user porcupinetheater don't tell anyone"

Still don’t get the major love for ‘Quiet Town’ - very meat and potatoes tune for me
Title track maybe a top 5 Killers song though

Dammit Row, I was going for the long con. That Somebody Told Me money just isn't keeping the milk in my cornflakes like it used to.
Y'all love that down-to-earth homely cornflakes reference? I bet you do.

Keep talking down my record Doof and yr gonna end up like those kids that got hit by a train that I used as a decorative ornament in Quiet Town to talk about how sometimes bad things happen outside the big city too

I really feel so blessed when we got to interview them, even if they can’t talk with our profound depth of feeling about hillbilly heroin pills

ok we can dismantle the ~nuances~ of why writing about the town you're from is apparently off-limits now all day, that's fine, but there's no need for anyone to use the M-word (Mumford). for god's sake have some decency you heathens

Mumford Machine

Mumford and his band are living (?) proof that dropping this into a moment in history where these types of towns are decaying economically before our very eyes lends this a momentum it couldn't have possibly garnered in, say, 2005
or 2009 or other years that aren't post-Covid Trump era years
