I was expecting to hate this one based off of the singles, but was pleasantly surprised lol. I like Jackknife Lee's previous work and wasn't sure if his style would blend well with MM. It comes off as well intentioned that they chose to work with him after hearing the whole thing.

The record just never quite comes together for me. Transmitting into The Sun Hasn't Left into Lace Your Shoes is a rough stretch (as admirable as Lace Your Shoes is), and Leave a Light On has never remotely done a single thing for me.
But Wooden Soldiers is the best song I've heard all year. I grow more and more certain every time I listen to it.

Yeah, tracks 6-10 is easily the worst stretch on any Modest Mouse release I know.

I personally can't fathom how every song is C tier or better, but w/e I guess it's cool that this isn't unanimously disliked

One of the things I really value Sputnikmusic for is the high-effort comments, filled with consideration, grace and a general goodwill. The lack of trollish behavior and the politeness for both the bands being enjoyed and the fellow users of the website really just makes this website an example for all of music culture and the internet as a whole.

So, listen, I'm happy to support you in this sexual lifestyle but I have to urge you to embrace safety and communication. It's important not to cause any anal fissures or anal bleeding.

Watching the progression of Storm In A Teacup's opinion on this album has been a whirlwind to be sure, but is pretty typical of how opinions on Modest Mouse albums tend to evolve. They grow on you. Especially as you familiarize yourself with the lyrics, which you can't do after just one playthrough, especially with the way Isaac Brock sings. This album slaps, and is my favorite release from the band in a long time.
