I'm all for a good shit-post

"Have One On Me" likely wouldn't make my top 10

which is astounding now I think about it, because it's rather excellent

There’s a stretch of about three minutes of Only Skin which is far and away the best stuff she’s ever written/performed

you are probably including the duet with bill callahan in that... (by far the worst part)

Nope 👎

Thats prob the weakest stretch of the song

It’s approx min 5 to min 8

Also prob better than any three minutes of any Kate Bush song if you want more hyperbole

The duet is definitely the ‘weakest’ part. Why would you want anyone else’s vox cluttering up Newsom’s work? I don’t find it offensive, just relatively inessential

Good choice on best segment, aye

It's a nice compliment to her rather shrill warble imo

But the best song is Cosmia but it's all for that sweet acoustic baby

Also idk if i'm the only one who sees this but imo Joanna sounds like a higher pitched Bjork in sctions

There’s definitely some Bjork’isms on this one yeah

I disagree on principle because JN isn't even "foreign", so you're missing one of the two key ingredients to make an otherwise baseless comparison (the other being "unconventional" / "weird" etc. of course)

Well, they’d gone by ‘Have One on Me’ so whatever’s different in her vocals between those two albums concentrate there

But yeah, even on the three minutes I picked out on ‘Only Skin’ there’s a couple of ‘squeaky alien mouse’ bits that sound like Bjork…ish

I don’t really want to break from what I’m listening to to find the exact moments that sound most like that xD

I was gonna say not all squeaky (alien?) mouses are created equally, but that just sounds weird regardless of context

if you mean shrillness then the odd moment here is a way bigger obstacle than anything Bjork has done, maybe that’s just due to the timing for me personally but from what I can gather, JN’s vox (here) are a bigger barrier to entry. Have One On Me is mostly plain sailing in that regard
