maybe next time ur at the record store try and bring up to an attendant at that section how you're getting into hip hop and you want recs on lets say, 00s hip hop. if someone overhears and join in you've got 2 potential friends/acquaintances that you can take as far as you see fit based on talking with them. that's usually when talk about nearby concerts, tours in general and you never know where you'll end up. in college i went to a local record store (first time in my life) and said that I only heard marshall mathers LP and wanted more Hip Hop, he recced Reasonable doubt and outkast and the rest is history. we still chat on fb from time to time. idk if he was super nice but it doesn't seem like a ridiculous story given that's his job and you're clearly interested in what he likes
