Not perfect, I don't really care for The Last Song for example, but there is a lot of good stuff here, it's great.

"Under the Sun" is so good. [3]

I really find Under the Sun cheesy and boring, don't know why everyone loves it so much

@Myth: It's cheesy and has been done better by lots of Art Prog bands, but it's still a lovely song. It's nice that they seemed to just have fun on a lot of these songs

I get that this didn't connect with you like a typical Fates album but I'm surprised you enjoyed the new DT more than this tbh Willie

What???? DT striving to come up with anything not bad versus creative explosion??? THAT'S MADNESS!

Wait. Are we talking about Dream Theater or Devin Townsend? Or maybe Daniel Tompkins?!

I'm siding with Mike Portnoy on this one:

^^^ Same. The dude wasn't auditioning for the band, he was doing them a favor.

Feels like such a pointless rift tbh. Portnoy always plays with his own style, and I wouldn't expect a drummer with such a stature to not infuse his own flair while playing other's songs. I agree that Bobby plays the older songs better than Portnoy because of his attention to detail like Mark said, but at the end of the day it's nice to see a good comradery between Fates and other prog drummers (I think Jim is the main reason for that)

Portnoy tends to always react to these kinds of comments / criticisms about him, and Zonder has always been particular about his parts and how they're played by others

Zonder went for the easy target here: an elite and praised drummer doing something not up to par, and that's giving me the impression of... jealousy?

Don't want it to be the case, as Zonder is really an impressive and historical figure in prog metal.

I think it's kind of cool to hear the 'What if Portnoy was in Fates Warning' kind of vibe. He doesn't need to play the parts exactly as a fill-in. It's like when Metallica had Dave Lombardo and the ex-Slipknot drummer fill-in for them. They added their own little flair, as they should.
