when an artist of his reputation barely manages a murmur of a response, either this is his weakest effort by most counts, or it's a misunderstood gem that might see a resurgence of discussion in later years

i'm banking on the former but we can rehash this 20 yrs from now fwiw

yes. many songs are gorgeous. but then some are questionable. and then the thing runs for an unnecessary length. but most songs are indeed gorgeous

Could definitely see this being an album I throw on in a year or two and think, "why didn't I pay more attention to this when it was released??"

There could be a very good like 7.5/10 album if it were the first two tracks, last two, My Rajneesh, and that instrumental part of Landslide incorporated somewhere. Maybe that Tonya Harding song and Lonely Man of Winter could be added too.

"It's just a big ol slog of a listen"

Pretty much how I feel about everything he has released after Illinois. He creatively put all his eggs in one basket on that record, so much that everything he released since is a chore to listen to front to back. Not a popular opinion, I know.

Adz has some good songs on it but is a chore to listen to front to back.

I listened to Carrie a while back and I did enjoy it but didn't have any temptation to listen to it again.

I was so excited for this. "My Rajneesh" was a defining song of my summer . . . and, turns out, was a better unit of sound than this clunker :'(
