"the part i have strong feelings over whether is this album demands to be approached as something 'deep' in the sense of a grand, far-reaching statement, rather than as a first and foremost personal and testimonial affair that doesn't need to be overintellectualised"
see i guess thats where we diverge. i think a profound statement may need be grand and far-reaching but not a deep one. in fact i think how personal this is is exactly what makes it deep. i think the level of self-awareness in the reflection is deep. i think the recognition/irony of how insignificant all the deep thoughts are is deep. i'd certainly describe all of the most candid revelations and moments of disclosure i've shared with my friends and family as deep, especially ones that are this disarmingly regardful to the fact that a lot of these are just (new) thoughts about (old) thoughts. i do agree that it doesn't need to be overintellectualized, but i also think that the fact that it doesn't need to be overintellectualized doesn't need to be overintellectualized ;]
also, a little pedantic, but i never claimed the album was not deep (or the opposite of deep - not something i would accuse it of!), just that it was not that deep (ie its content isn't dependent on being approached as supremely meaningful or artistically intricate, as some people seemed to imply while quibbling in detail over small fry points such as the title). hope that clarifies where i'm coming from
yeah okay pedantics and semantics then, jolly good, aren't won't don't

I think there's plenty sonic diversity on this album (EP? Single?) to want to come back to it. The "basic" guitar is the foundation on which the rest of the musicianship is built off of.
