Well, I prefer this "elitist" sound. Crystal clear sound could be nice too.
(Also don't mind me, I'm just dumb.)

Hmmm. I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say but I'm not really sure how to clear that up lol. I wasn't questioning the authenticity of this aesthetic and I wasn't calling it elitist either, if that helps.

I was mostly being facetious when I referred to this as basically just ambient music, but I won't deny that I've been listening to it from an ambient mindset. Usually I will only ever listen to ambient music while I read because I like the noise to be disengaging enough to blur out while still providing ~atmosphere~ to my reading, and this has served quite well as my ambient reading music. I wouldn't usually listen to black metal while readin, but this is soft enough that it works

That makes sense, and can confirm that taking that queue from you is making this a much more enjoyable experience. Going to be a considerable rating bump.

Glad youre enjoyin it now

It's actually pretty insane the difference, when you first said that this was [relatively] soft I was like "what the absolute fuck is this guys ears made of" because blasting this at full volume was like icepicks to the brain, but at 70% everything really smooths out.

Lmao yea I haven't even tried listening to it like that. Might throw the volume up on it tomorrow and see how it fares

yeah I was oversimplifying by saying it's just ambient, but that's the primary songwriting angle I think. glad Pots is gaining at least a little insight/enjoyment as to what all the fuss is about.

Funny cause I don't think of this as "primarily ambient" at all, in fact, Paysage's ambient-only stuff bores the crap out of me.
"Epic" is not a word I'd use to describe this, but it kind of has this feeling of a conductor in front of an orchestra, with really big, sweeping movements of enveloping sound that really makes you work to catch the nuances (there's actually quite a bit of good, fancy bass-work in here but its buried pretty hard).

All the surface noise / shitty cassette / field recording sounds are really satisfying when they are allowed to breathe on the 'interludes'

you might like Das Tor and Winterkaelte then. the "noise" is much, much more prominent there

After my initial knee-jerk I dont want to overcompensate with too much of a knee-jerk in the opposite direction just to settle somewhere in the middle later so I'm gonna give this a soft 3 for now and listen again later in the same much more optimal conditions. but I could see myself settling a little higher. Night and day difference just not blasting this. But most of the music I listen to these days is best ALL THE WAY UP so I didnt even think of that being such a compromising issue on first listen.

Hell yeah Pots! That's a hard-earned 3 right there haha.
Maybe it's just the headphones I use but my ears would explode if I played *anything* at more than 80% or so. I have this around 65% usually.

Mine seem to run a bit on the quieter side. Amazing quality but I often find after listening to music for extended periods at a time I quickly max them out and wish they could go a bit higher. But I also definitely have hearing damage so who knows lol.

Too many front row concerts?
But yeah, it's obviously not our fault (or our problem) if Wintherr has a hyper specific way he wants us to listen to this to get the "correct/full experience" or w/e but it really seems like he does, with all his Paysage stuff.
He's certainly dedicated.

eh pots, my first reaction to this was "this is so fucking boring" and then something just clicked after a while. one of those albums you need to be in the right headspace for
|

i want to hear this with good production

"Too many front row concerts?"
That and playing in a lot of bands and making my own music too loud and just listening to shit too loud etc etc etc.
