I could see someone who isn't a fan of Bridgers not liking the song, but if you like her style in general then it's hard to see how that epic closer wouldn't be a godsend.

Sowing MWY avatar is incredible. Just made me go listen to Rainbow Signs.

i felt like this album had a very high ceiling when i first listened to it - y'all ever hear an album and it sounds dope and you really want it to click and you dig in and it just .... does not. it's frustrating, i want to believe!!

"Maybe that’s the appeal though, how sudden and unexpected it is."
Yes. Plus ends an album on a perfect note.

Romulus just jam it again!
Agreed with everyone saying IKTE is perfect

The ending is anything but contrived IMO. I was not expecting a scream. A guitar solo? Maybe. A flourish of strings? More likely. But the way it ends caught me so off guard and is untouchably perfect to my ears.

It's so cathartic too. It feels like the whole album is plaintive and ponderous but about heavyweight topics, then that is just a release of all the pent up frustration. Anyone alive in 2020 should be able to relate, I know I did.

Yes it's stupidly on-point time capsule for 2020

Also I'd be interested in knowing if that's actually Phoebe screaming. If it is, that makes it even more unexpected and perfect - not because she's female but because her style of music is so soft-spoken. It'd be like Sufjan erupting into a rage scream at the end of Carrie & Lowell. Speaking of which, and somewhat off-topic, my enjoyment of this parallels Age of Adz in striking ways. Not a huge fan of the production on either, both would be merely 'good' (IMO) without their respective closers, and both of those closers are epics that qualify among the very best songs I've heard in my life.

garden song sounds like a shitty retread of smoke signals
|
| |
3 spins and i still think kyoto blows the other tracks out of the water
|
| |
i prefer it to smoke signals *shrug*
|
| |
its alright i guess
am i in the minority thinking that kyoto is lame? idk i find her more uptempo stuff really tepid
|
| |
i love the music and the flow. chorus is gorgeous

very new in listening to her but i think 'funeral' is my favorite of the two albums thus far
|
| |
garden song is a very *shrug* song, but kyoto is probs better than motion sickness as far the token pop songs go
|
| |
maybe i'm just partial to her poppier stuff. a lot of her more stripped back stuff i find boring as hell tbh

"Kyoto" is very, very excellent indeed. Been stuck in my head the last few days. I would love to see her go full indie pop at some point.

Kyoto is top-3 Phoebe for sure
"I would love to see her go full indie pop at some point."
that's what I love about her, she could do a kick-ass indie pop album, I believe she has the muscle for a rock album, and I think if she did a country album it would be perfect
