This really is an album that grows on you with repeated listens. It might not be super technical, but it still requires some repetition to click.

I don't know why technicality is always thrown into the discussion concerning this album when it's easily their least memorable effort despite being more stripped-down. It's not like they just started becoming concerned with songwriting on Bleeding and this was the culmination of that.

It's thrown into the discussion because technical music, and a lot of prog in general, requires multiple listens to click. So, even though this prog isn't really technical it still requires some listens to click -- exactly like I just said. It's also not more stripped down. Bleeding is much more streamlined and stripped down than this. That's why it's also much more catchy and easily digestible than this. This isn't a culmination of Bleeding's easier songwriting, it's actually a step away from that.

Dream Theater haven't been good since 1999, agreed

I mostly agree, but their last one was actually pretty good.

It's number 2 in the Trending albums section, and in the 'Best New Music' section too. I was definitely surprised about those things.

Well, the band deserves it.

Very disappointed with this. Lots of generic slow to mid paced riffing with pretty much nothing interesting thrown in

That’s how I’m feeling too. Some cool parts but overall too drawn out and just not very exciting

For me

Devils and Angels, Stranded, All the Bad Men, While the Spiders Spin, Pull the String, and Sisters of the Dawn are great songs.

And the rest is super tedious and puts me to sleep.

IMO this is their weakest album, but still a respectable return, and the production is massive. To me they got a little weaker with each album. I like Mosquito a lot more than Bleeding.

@ Anthracks & Dunpeal

That's exactly what I thought of the album at first, fortunately it got better for me as the listens accumulated.

Also, album is No. 1 in trending releases, this was totally unexpected.

Seeing a few 2's reaffirms the aged-ole adage: prog metal is not for everyone.
