Faraudo, you prefer this over Malina?

People need to be more open-minded, it's not a perfect album but it's still really good, every time Leprous changes their sound there are a bunch of haters whining about them not sounding exactly as they did on Bilateral. There are many excellent moments here and The Sky Is Red is easily one of their best songs ever.

Btw Einar has always been the main writer, that's not new.

"Faraudo, you prefer this over Malina?"

I do, mainly because of the lesser "proggy just because we can play weird time signatures" kind of approach. Of course I love most of their releases so far (Malina included) and indulge in proggy stuff, but to me this one felt like a logical evolution and a proper way to avoid stagnation, all while delivering a beautiful end product.

Malina didn't really have that many odd time signatures iirc.

Yeah I know, I'm not implying that there are too many or that they overdid that aspect with Malina. I just really enjoyed this "straightforward" side of theirs quite a bit.

I just miss the guitars, man. I'm okay with them not going crazy like they did on the first two. But it would be nice to at least have some sort of prominent rhythm section.

My buddy just started getting me into this band, although this album will be my first listen to their stuff where I've been able to just sit down and soak it in. Anyone have any recs for where to start with their discography?

They are too low in the mix for my taste too, but the music is good

This album lacks one or two outstanding tracks. It offers some god pop choruses and that's all. Shame.

Their first two albums. As much as I love this, it's a pretty bad starting point.

The Congregation is a good starting point. It's catchy and embodies kind of their signature style

I started at Malina after seeing them tour playing mostly songs off that album

Hyped for the upcoming tour. The Ocean will be quite a contrast to the songs on here.

Bilateral is too wacky for an introductory album. I'd have to agree with Congregation - it serves well as a middle of ground of sorts between the first three and last two.

Yeah thats true. TPS and especially Bilateral require quite a few listens to digest

Sounds good. I'll start with The Congregation. My buddy has been pushing Malina hard so that might have to be the second one I hit if for no other reason than to have a point of reference for what he hears in them.
