The Mantle/Agalloch is pretty entry level for the genre, but that doesn't mean that's what someone should listen to first. i mean cmon, at least go a little bit deeper, jam The Gathering Wilderness or anything by Windir if you wanna listen to more folk/black metal

Why is this so much better than Vigilance Perennial? That album was a snooze-fest. Considering revisiting though.

Because you belong to a subset of people who found it a snooze-fest. Again, it's a sad state of business for your kind.

Yeah I agree. This wasn't a drastic departure from Vigilance IMO, but it seems to be marketed and interpreted as almost a revolutionary album for them. It sounds like a continuation of what they've been working towards up to this point. The production has improved but the meandering structures, folk elements, uplifting harmonized leads, and atmosphere are all pretty consistent with what they've done in the past.

@Crysis, I can't wait to hear Arrow and Kiln tomorrow, but want to keep the rest a mystery

Basically Vigilance Perennial and this are both fantastic for different reasons. That album’s campfire black metal in the woods at night with some rain (much more dreary and desolate). This is more like discovering light again after being shrouded in darkness for 50 years. In other words, it’s the perfect bm album for the summer, haha

I was just thinking something similar Atar, though I get much more Spring-time vibes from this. It's so fucking bright and sunny. It makes me wanna go for walks and get lost in the woods.

Brandon do you prefer this or Yellow Eyes?

I think I prefer this, which is surprising b/c I STAN Yellow Eyes.
If I had to rank the recent batch of Gilead releases it would be:
1)Falls of Rauros - Patterns in Mythology (legit 6/5)
2)False - Portent (4.6/5)
3)Yellow Eyes (4.5/5)
I round them all up to to 5 though b/c they're all incredible.

opening three minutes of Weapons sounds like a Weakling cover
also I kinda of hate this guitar tone

It's no Carcass tone, but works well in the mix on my cans ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’d go Yellow Eyes > this > False.
YE and this are my top 2 metal albums of the year so far. False is fantastic but it’s honestly not cracking my top 25 yet.
