Album Rating: 3.5
Well I guess we have different methods of rating then, my friend. Honestly, though, the main reason this album has me roped in is because first listen, thought it was meh, second listen decided it was pretty decent, then listened to it a couple times with my fiancé because she wanted to hear it, and then I realized tracks I didn’t like at first were growing on me. And when songs start to grow on me, I get hooked lol. That, and I tend to binge a new album that I like heavily for a day or two and then leave it alone for months and months lol

That's great, i wish i'd like the album more than i do. I totally can see the appeal, but i just can't get into it. After the first listen i thought it was an alright album, but after the secons listen the vast majority of track got awfully boring, and "nihilist blues" and the final track were the only standouts.

Surprising Benecidal still has this at a 4 yet claimed this would be "one of the best in music history."
Bene, if you're reading this thread... 5 it, bitch. You won't.

late linkin park and late imagine dragons had a baby, he looks like david gueta

This is a million times better than One More Shite
|

I would say Spirit was their MTM because it signaled a drastic change in sound that they seem to be continuing with and not looking back, and then this would be their Thousand Suns because it's leaning more on the electronic side but still remaining radio friendly

great review, fucking dreadful album. Call me an elitist but im still waiting for There Is a Hell part 2

Album Rating: 4.5
@sepia: I won't call you an elitist for that, just incredibly short-sighted. This is the direction they've chose to go, and they're really doing whatever the fuck they want anyway. That's better than just giving us half hearted schlock that their heart isn't in.

Would probably be less "half hearted" than this album... Thing is so over the place

Album Rating: 4.5
If they kept making There Is a Hell over and over, there's a chance they'd end up as half-baked and uninspired as the last Phinehas album, but even worse because Dark Flag is still pretty good for a downgrade.

@Asura: That's the point, it's meant to be versatile and all over the place.

Yeah I totally get hating this album but I’m not sure you can say it doesn’t sound like they’re enjoying themselves. At the very least they really feel like they’re doing what they want to.
Yeah lyrics on this aren’t very good. Luckily, it’s incredibly easy for me to ignore lyrics and focus solely on the vocal melodies themselves.

Linkin Park > this band

I admit this album has some interesting moments, but I usually only last until that „And I know it doesn‘t make a lot of sense...“ part in Mantra, until I get the strong urge to turn it off.

"they’re enjoying themselves" No way, Lee and Matt must be bored out of their minds.... even in interviews they just stay quiet while Sykes and Jordan speak
Not a band effort, just an all over the place showcase of how lost Sykes is "artistically"

Album Rating: 4.5
@Asura: Oh, you mean like they've been during pretty much their entire career? Lee and Matt almost never speak in interviews.

On another note, they probably would've left already if they were as bored as you claim.

The drums have quite a few spots to shine on this too. And I really like the level of experimentation on this. Sometimes it doesn't work, but this is anything but safe and I admire that about it a lot

@peartnoy: Some tracks feel a bit more safe-playing than others (namely Mother Tongue and Medicine for the pop side and Mantra for the rock side) but the songs that they REALLY adventure out on like Nihilist Blues are some of their best, easily.
