Haha yeah sometimes the feelsie bullshit gets to me. I liked their debut but this didn't give me any sense of real emotion/variance. Felt very static-y. Well done static, but static nevertheless.

I was never huge on these guys in the first place but i guess I just expected a ~mature~ departure from their sound and lyrically it's there but musically it just feels like they watered down some pop punk songs idk.

That's basically the impression I got. The lyrics and the compositions don't really seem to mesh well at all. The more ballad-esque tracks kinda fell flat.

Out Of It is prob my fav but yeah the ballads are really really bordering on, uhm, lame pop?

crazy to me that so many pop-punk people are lukewarm on this. the production is wild, vocals sound amazing and flow so well, lyrically a little darker and more sobering, plus a variety of sounds and moods unlike their past releases. still spinning almost every day.

who the fuck is pop punk twitter and what authority should anybody even give a handle with that name?

This thing is still sitting at a 3.9 - on sputnik, a site that loves to talk shit about TSSF - which is probably the highest rated pop-punk album this year

literally using the charts on this site. the only thing rated higher is Spanish Love Songs, which I have actually never heard of. So sure we can give them 1st place, and this is #2

The fact that a TSSF album has gotten better reception than Jeff Rosenstock and The Wonder Years in 2018 is really something

haven't listened to Alkaline so I can't say much, but TWY grew off me hard. Some of the songwriting just isn't good and soupy is becoming a parody of himself with the over-melodramatic cry singing
