Fantastic album. This review is great, but I can't say I fully agree. At first I was a little put off but the lack of heavier songs, but I think that lies in the sequencing more than anything (which is really the only fault I have for this album). Some of these songs are simply beautiful, and even Hold Up a Light (which some people don't like) is a solid rock song that'll be great live. I actually like it better than Just Breathe (that and The Dark are my 2 least favourites here) so maybe my Thrice taste sensor is broken.
I'm a weirdo who thinks M/M is their best album, so while this doesn't surpass that for me, it's better than TBEITBN and on par with Beggars and Vheissu for me.

Some real good moments here. The Dark, Just Breathe, My Soul and Blood on Blood are very solid. I agree with A Branch On The River sounding promising at first, but turns out to be half baked Beggars. Very disappointing. TBEITBN was better than this. At least that record has Whistleblower, Death from Above, Hurricane and The Window which are better than anything on here.

I'm a minute into this and it's already super boring

Wow I hatteeee The Dark. It's like they got bored of their usual sound but instead of changing their writing, they just replaced their rhythm and leads with the laziest pad sounds ever

I don't like the production on this, it's so flat and lifeless. Go back and forth from this and any other Thrice album and it's noticeably duller

Cause I kind of like it. The Grey grew on me, Everything Belongs is cool. It's a low 3 and most of my strongest opinions are negative but most of it's fine

I think they should have totally self produced it. Erik Palmquist's style worked well enough for the last album but this just feels really overproduced given the more stripped down nature. The production should be more raw and airy like Beggars or Air

Also no offense but calling Thrice the most boring band ever while 3.5ing the new Eminem album is kinda lulzy :p

yeah youd think the one thing redeemable about an album put out by a very successful group (credit where its due) would be fantastic production but even thats bad, the drums are fucking awful lets be ~o b j e c t i v e~ about that

I wouldn't say this album sounds overproduced from what I remember. It might be underproduced if anything. It sounds barely eq'd

Nothing completely kills an album dead for me, completely regardless of musical quality, than bad production

settled on a 3 rating for this, by far their worst album for me.
tracks best to worst:
Just Breathe
Beyond the Pines
The Grey
Blood on Blood
My Soul
Only Us
The Dark
Everything Belongs
Hold Up A Light
A Branch in the River (i hate this shit so bad, that chorus literally makes me puke)

Suggesting that A Branch in the River is worse than Hold Up a Light seems laughable but OK
The production isn't the worst...the guitars and bass sound good. The drums sound like paper though, and considering how good of a drummer Riley is that's kind of a crime
