They don't seem religious. Doesn't change, improve, or hamper their lyrics.

I mean't religious in the sense of the band members being religious and making religious music. If anything, it seems like the lead singer was raised Catholic and as such has a few criticisms against some doctrines and hypocrisies of organized religion.

Mortality Rate seems more like he is making fun of it. So I'm with Tranqyl here.

"This is like an ultra poppy version of Scarlet."

I like how you wrote this as if it were a bad thing.

I love this album. My only problem with it is that sometimes the vocalist bites a little too hard on Keith Buckley's delivery style. I can't mark them down for that too much though, because overall I think etid worship is something that should be encouraged.

Regarding Mortality Rate -

"I take a pretty sarcastic perspective and tone in this song. Playing with my ideas on how religion acts as a sort of shadow puppet in politics here in our country at least in rhetoric and justification for bullshit feel-good talking points."

Certain genres just shouldn’t be pop-ified, this is one of those times

Considering other bands under the metalcore banner, this is far from what I'd place in the pop camp.

Definitely don't see any pop in this. A few catchy choruses, sure, but that's not a feature that is solely belonging to pop.

Some of the vocal delivery kind of irks me. Can't recall a particular part off the top of my head, but basically when he's not singing or screaming and just kind of yelling instead...just kinda cheesy and falls flat. Screams are fantastic though

yeah could we say it's kind of "preaching"? Buckley got them to along all ETID's work, and I love those "yells" lol

Kinda reminds of Jon Mess' stuff from Secret Band, at least when he gets a little... weirder on the vocal delivery. I dig this.

This isn't my kind of metalcore, so unfortunately I am not digging this as much. I'll keep it for now though, and come back to it after a few months.
