I enjoyed Stone's film only because of Kilmer's acting, which was great. But despite all that, Kilmer portrayed only one side of Morrison's personality and in an exaggerating way too. Also, Stone putted too much emphasis on Morrison as an individual than as a part of a group.

No, is that a music documentary or a film ?

It's documentary, so it's more objective and informative. I think you'll enjoy it more than the film since you want to see a more well rounded story of the band.

Agreed. Don't know if this was the case with you but personally my first Doors album was a "best of" so I had trouble getting into their albums at first because I was looking for hits/standouts rather than listening to the album as a whole. Not anymore though.

I didn't have a Best Of but probably had the same mentality from just knowing bits and pieces that would get played on radio. The Crystal Ship was the only song new to me that matched the three I'd already heard off this. but now I like it all.

The End is about Oedipus right?
|

Yes, parts of it is, I believe
Nice dig, btw
Edit: I just checked Wiki (lol, reliable source...), and it has a quotation from Manzarek (R.I.P.) about the song:
"He was giving voice in a rock 'n' roll setting to the Oedipus complex, at the time a widely discussed tendency in Freudian psychology. He wasn't saying he wanted to do that to his own mom and dad. He was re-enacting a bit of Greek drama. It was theatre!"
