Mastodon at their most progressive and bizarre since CtS. Really love it.

Huh, listening to 'Toe to Toes', on first listen, I thought ''Wow Brent sounds really sad in this'' and then I said to myself ''Well apparently he went through something recently with a relationship'' didn't he say this or the band did? So I go read the lyrics, and it's like, just fantasy sort of lyrics. Like they're not personal at all.

I don't know, it's weird though, maybe he used them as metaphors? He sounds sad in how he sings the songs verses. I really like how he does it.

He knew me by my name, it was surprising

He knew everything about me that I despised

not very ambiguous at all

It's some kind of metaphor for something, I guess. Unless it literally just means he met up with the 'beast' whatever the beast represents in this context. Maybe nothing. It'd be lame if it literally meant nothing. I doubt it, and am hopeful it isn't worthless imagery. In any case he sounds depressed as hell singing those lyrics. I had heard he dealt with a breakup or something, though.

Maybe this line is about him getting drunk so much and acting like an idiot to the press? ''I played the fool, I played the sinner I played the part of me that nobody wanted to see''

I've read that Brent is actually pretty quiet guy when sober and nothing like his reputation would have us believe. I hope he gets his shit together, in any case, seems like he was going off the rails for a while there.

I wish they would put out more EP's to reduce some of the filler that has crept its way into newer releases.

This is an EP of filler that didn't make the last two albums. Wish granted.
