According to the graph it transmits on some tangible level to the majority of listeners hence my confusion but alright fair enough. You're allowed not to emotionally connect with an album

Row you rec'd me the previous album an age ago, I held off rating and expressing an opinion for months (I mean seemed unnescessary) but...then the new one got rec'd to me.
I revisited the old album and spun the new one a few times. You can put away the magnifying glass, pipe and deerstalker - there is no conspiracy beyond that.

Any one see a Gregory Alan Isakov influence on Achilles??
I'm having a hard time trying to decide whether this album is a rip-off or not.

Tbh I don't find the lyrics on this particularly noteworthy from what I picked up. Haven't looked at them online yet so don't know 'em all but what I heard wasn't great.
But I raaaaaaaaaarely give a flying fuck about lyrics since I'm a sound listener.

i thought there was something familiar about Fear and Trembling being an opener, i only just remembered Low Teens has one by the same name.
oh and if
"There's an omen now of frailty
Hanging heavy from my face
A kind of existential loneliness
That struts and frets a stage
And disappears unsatiated by
The rhythms of the day
Still illuminating nothing
But the love I turn away"
aren't great lyrics then i don't know what is

After seeing these guys live at their hometown Sydney show a few days ago, all I can say is if you get the chance... don't miss it! They're touring the UK/Europe next month and are in the process of organising an extensive US tour for Jan/Feb. The tracks from the new album translated brilliantly live, especially Deepest Sighs, What Can I Do, Heart Is A Muscle and Say Yes To Life. All were more powerful live and the string sections were filled unbelievably with lead guitar and synth/keys. Seriously, up there with the best gigs I have ever seen, and I'm pushing 60 and have seen hundreds, probably thousands. Dave is the best frontman I've seen since Michael Hutchence and Tex Perkins. His display sans guitar in Let Me Down Easy was worth the price of admission alone. Watch out world...

Interludes are almost highlights here, imo. In fact, Le Symbolique + Let Me Down Easy is likely the best 1-2 I've heard all year. Floored me the first time, floors me now.

This is so fucking average, oftentimes grating. And so tediously long too
